Relief efforts for Harvey continue as well as assistance and aid being flown, trucked and shipped by boat from Houston to the Virgin Islands and South Florida - it has been a wild week. Chanie's brother, Rabbi Mendel Galperin is sticking it out as he was sent on a mission to Virgin Islands only to meet the wrath of Irma, while is wife Chyena and baby evacuated by boat to Puerto Rico.

However,  Rosh Hashana is HERE! Please join us for Services, Dinners & Luncheons - all the info you need is listed at www.chabaduptown.org/services

Although we usually would bless the upcoming new month this Shabbat, according to the Baal Shem, "G-d Himself blesses the month of Tishrei, and it is with the power of this blessing that the people of Israel bless the other months of the year."  Although the formal blessing is not recited, we fulfill the other customs of Shabbat Mevarchim Hachodesh, reciting the Book of Psalms before morning prayers at 8:30 am and conducting farbrengens after prayer. Link: On the Significance of Shabbat Mevarchim

We kick off the days of awe, with "midnight" selichos at 1:15 am this Saturday night / Sunday morning. We hope to see you there! Links:  More on Selichot

Mazel tov to Chanie, for her sister Sara Galperin's engagement to Mendel Perlstein from Chicago, Illinois!
