We were in Chattanooga this morning. For real. It is unreal that the events there today began to unfold as we were leaving town. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the marines who lost their lives in a senseless attack. The prayers that we recited their overnight should provide the spiritual uplifting they all need.
We just came home. What a whirlwind of a trip!Yigal did a great job covering the home front while we travelled, visiting Chanie's sister in Chicago and attending a conference of Shluchim and Shluchos whose mission are to serve the spiritual needs of young Jewish professionals. It was wonderful to meet and share best practices with others in this growing community of shluchim dedicated to serving this demographic.
Tomorrow, Friday July 17 is Rosh Chodesh Av. We will have our monthly Rosh Chodesh minyan and breakfast at 6:45 am. We will conclude by 8 am. Please let us know if you we can count on you for the minyan.
As such, tonight begins "The Nine Days" concluding with Tisha B'av, that falls this year on Shabbos and is observed on Sat night, and Sunday July 25-26. Following the 9 pm Maariv, Havdalla and Eicha service on Sat night, we will will have a community screening of a compelling film by JLI followed by discussion, "With My Whole Broken Heart". The film features interviews with Daniel Pearl's parents, Ruth and Judea Pearl; Sherri Mandel, mother of Kobi Mandell; Rabbi Nissan Mangel; and former Israeli chief rabbi, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau.
