Affordable Care Act vs. Chabad
- Did you miss the signup deadline?
While the country is still debating and analyzing the virtues of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it is indisputable that Chabad of Uptown provides the most important care: Essential educational, outreach and social service care to the Jewish community.
The Affordable Care Act gave you a deadline to sign up by December 25th. We have no deadlines - though year’s end is a great time to donate.
While the Affordable Care Act does not guarantee improved healthcare, Chabad guarantees the wellbeing of each Jew in our care.
And while the Affordable Care Act requires you to buy Insurance with after tax dollars, Cheder also takes appreciated stock, IRA distributions, used cars and unwanted real property.
Please donate towards our matching grant year-end $30,000 campaign, it isn’t mandatory like the ACA, but it is a big Mitzvah!
Visit our website to participate! (Oh, and our website actually works).
We are almost at $30,000! Please give generously at www.chabaduptown.org/donate

Mailbag:
- Dear Rabbi Chaim, As we approach 2014 and think over the last year, I cannot help but marvel at what each one of us has gotten from being with you as a guide through TANYA. In my experience, most students do not tell their teachers how good they are because they think their teachers already know that. But the fact is, teachers rarely get to hear what they add to their students' lives. TANYA class has drawn together quite a diverse crowd to say the least. Yet, none of us would have gotten to know each other without this class. You are the glue. I do not know how you manage to answer the myriad of questions that pop up but you do it in a unique way that speaks directly to our individual ways of learning and it reaches both our minds and souls. And when things get complicated as they always do, you give us laughter. Thank you for all this and looking forward to more. - Dr. Maxine Epstein
Chof Daled Teves - Yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe, Author of the Tanya
- Tonight, 24 Teves, is the Yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad Chassidism, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi (1745-1812). He passed away on the eve of the 24th of Tevet, at approximately 10:30 pm, shortly after reciting the Havdalah prayer marking the end of the Shabbat. The Rebbe was in the village of Peyena, fleeing Napoleon's armies, which had swept through the Rebbe's hometown of Liadi three months earlier in their advance towards Moscow. He was in his 68th year at the time of his passing, and was succeeded by his son, Rabbi DovBer of Lubavitch.
