Schedule change this week - 10 Teves Fast

Friday, 13 December, 2013 - 12:14 am

This email is sponsored by Samuel Kronman of Urban Farms in loving memory of his father, Yechiel Elya ben Avraham Yoel. Thank you to Sam for adding amazing flavor to our Shabbos last week with his carefully grown assorted micro greens! He is graciously opening up his commercial business for private sales to community members. Contact us for his contact info.

Almost half way through December, but we still need help to get to our $30,000 year end goal! Remember your donation is worth double, dollar for dollar! www.chabaduptown.org/donate - write "year-end" in the comments.

Shabbos schedule is slightly different this week as Friday, Jan. 13, is the Fast of Tevet 10. It is observed as a day of fasting, mourning and repentance, in remembrance of the siege of Jerusalem. We refrain from food and drink from daybreak at 5:53 am to nightfall at 5:50 pm, and add the Selichot and other special supplements to our morning prayers. (More recently, Tevet 10 was chosen to also serve as a "generalkaddish day" for the victims of the Holocaust, many of whose day of martyrdom is unknown.)

The fast begins upon going to sleep. To eat up until 5:53 am you either need to remain awake or you must, before going to sleep, make a verbal condition to yourself to eat and drink before the fast begins.

We will break the fast with kiddush at Shabbos dinner, therefore Friday night services this week will be at 4:50 pm and dinner at 6 pm... See below for detailed schedule.

Moshe Stein has a birthday and will read the Torah, Parshas Vayechi, concluding the book of Bereishis with "Chazak!" and marking his "bar-mitzvah anniversary"!
