✌ Tens (100s?) of thousands and we're just getting started!

Friday, 29 November, 2013 - 12:12 am

We are so thankful to our Chabad of Uptown family for stepping up to the plate and giving $3,690 that will matched and doubled to $7,380! Thank you for helping us reach our $30,000 year end goal! www.chabaduptown.org/donate

Chanukah has kicked off with an abundance of Chanukah events around the Houston areas as listed on www.chabadhouston.com/menorah!

Rockets Scoreboard Chanukah Float Dancing Chanukah Float

Of the many Houston events, we participated with:

  • Wed. 3 pm: An intimate electric lighting, firing up Houston's newest giant 9 foot menorah, brightening up 20131127_150049.jpgPost Oak Blvd & Uptown Park! Thank you to Linda Suib and Danny & Rivka Fishman for their sponsorship!
  • Wed. 5 pm: A menorah lighting & Chanukah party in front of Toyota Center, pregaming the Hoops & Hanukkah at 7 pm with the Houston Rockets, featuring many Chanukah parts including a half-time Rabbis presentation! My message was inspired by Ambassador Avner's account with th PreRockets Toyota Center Lightinge Rebbe. I shared with the 18,000 Rockets fans, "Wax and thread only become a candle when lit by fire. Each of you has the match to light your own candle. Do a good deed and brighten the world with amazing light!"
The numbers are unclear, but at least over 600 community members came out for the "sold-out" game getting free tshirts and a 9:30 post game meet & greet with Omri Casspi!
  • Thurs. 7:30 am: Gearing up for the first time ever Chanukah float to appear in the annual Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade at 9 am! See my personal and Chabad of Uptown's Facebook for manypics and videos (including a clip of my Dreidel challenge with the Dynamo mascot. I GO Omri Casspi Post GameT A GIMMEL!!!)
Tens (if not hundreds?) of thousands heard and saw the miracle of Chanukah. This unprecedented effort may be all wrapped up in this random Facebook postfrom a non-Jewish spectator: "My fave float of the Parade. The Orthodox Jewish congregation had an entry for what I think has to be the first time, and they were having a blast. I wanted to call them the Klezmer Brothers. Hopefully they won't wait 70,000 years for next coincidence of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving before their next entry."

We hope you will join us for the Coin Menorah Celebration to support social services for homebound seniors, this Sunday night at 5:30 pm! Please RSVP so we can prepare the All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet-Dinner accordingly! www.chabaduptown.org/coin

Once again we will have a Rosh Chodesh Minyan at 6:45 am on both Rosh Chodesh days, Dec. 3 & 4, followed by a sumptuous breakfast sponsored by the Melnik family! Please let us know if we can rely on you for a minyan.
