This Sunday marks 200 years since the passing of the Alter Rebbe on 24 Teves, 5573 / 1812. A mystic, a communal activist, a philosopher, a halachic authority, a composer, a talmudist—Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi was all of these. But he was primarily a spiritual guide, who created a practical path that allows anyone to approach divinity. Rabbi Schneur Zalman lived in an era of change and unrest on a global scale. Yet his life continues to inspire, and his works and teachings have long withstood the test of time.
At Chabad of Uptown we have had the gift to study his seminal work of the Tanya in a very deep manner every Thursday at noon and 8 pm for almost two years now. We study his works of Torah Ohr and Likkutei Torah on Shabbos mornings. Even after many years of yeshivah and Rabbinical study, teaching his works has changed my understanding of his teachings and the world we live in. I want to personally thank each of you, for helping bring me to this level of study.
I hope it has changed the participants as well. (If you are one of them, please share what it has done for you, we would love to hear. If you are not, you may join us at any time!)
There will be a special Farbrengen for men and women at Chabad Lubavitch Center on Motzei Shabbos, Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8 pm with Guest Speaker Rabbi Yossi Marrus of S. Antonio. Click for more.
