Tisha B'Av | Movie: Unsettled | Love, Lust & Romance | The White Party
Before we get to this weekend, let's talk about next weekend, TuB'Av. There were no greater festivals for Israel than the 15th of Av and Yom Kippur. On these days the daughters of Jerusalem would go out... and dance in the vineyards. And what would they say? "Young man, raise your eyes and see which you select for yourself...."

This weekend, we observe Tisha B'Av. As the actual day falls out on Shabbos, we do not observe most of the prohibitions, and push it off to Saturday night and Sunday. Included in the mourning observances, we don't eat, drink, apply lotions, wear leather shoes, sit at normal height, learn Torah, shower, have intimacy or go on outings. Click here for the complete guide, readings and insights.
We will have a special program on Saturday night with a reading of the customary Tisha B'av Eicha Lamentations, followed by a big screen viewing of a special film: Unsettled. Join and share event on Facebook. This day is when we traditionally mourn the destruction of the Temple and all the subsequent tragedies to befall the Jewish people.
In recent history we witnessed Israel's disengagement from Gaza. It all began with the closing of the Kissufim crossing when on August 14, 9 Av, of 2005 and the Gaza Strip became officially closed for entrance by Israelis. During the Gaza withdrawal, three young Israelis will be forced from their homes, two soldiers will be sent to evict them, and one activist will try to help her country avoid a war. UNSETTLED is the story of a generation on the front lines of a nation's battle against itself.
Why the obsession over an ancient Jerusalemite structure? Does the lack of a Holy Temple leave any of us feeling a gaping hole in our lives?
