Is Sad Bad? A world of white

Thursday, 12 July, 2012 - 8:49 pm

Somehow 45 young professionals packed our dining room last week for a spirited July "First Friday" Shabbos dinner! Make sure not to miss the next one on August 3 for our annual Tu B'Av holiday of romance - THE WHITE PARTY! - Facebook

This year the observance of Tisha B'av is deffered from Shabbos to Saturday night-Sunday, July 28-29 when we will transform darkness of exile, to the white purity of light. If, G-d forbid, Moshiach does not come before, there will be a Tisha B'av Service, inlcuding traditional reading of Eicha-Lamentations - followed by a screening of the documentary film on Israel's 2005 Gaza withdrawl: UNSETTLED.

Tisha B'Av day is when we traditionally mourn the destruction of the Temple and subsequent tragedies to befall the Jewish people. In recent history we witnessed Israel's disengagement from Gaza. It all began with the closing of the Kissufim crossing when on August 14, 9 Av, of 2005 and the Gaza Strip became officially closed for entrance by Israelis.

During the Gaza withdrawal, three young Israelis will be forced from their homes, two soldiers will be sent to evict them, and one activist will try to help her country avoid a war. UNSETTLED is the story of a generation on the front lines of a nation's battle against itself.

The weekly Wednesday classes for young professionals will now resume with a plethora of topics, beginning with a class on Wed. July 8 - "Messiah: What Jews believe" - including FREE dinner! Other upcoming topics includes a monthly series on the Jewish perspective on issues of the Election 2012, Creation & Evolution, Love, Tattoos and more. On Facebook here.

Of course, our other regular weekly classes are still on schedule! Sunday, BLT = Bagels Lox & Tefillin (and Hayom Yom), Thursday, Tanya at noon and 8 pm (currently discussing the difference between depression, sadness and seriousness), Shabbos morning Chassidus at 9 am (besides Shabbos mevarchim, see below). If the general community would like a series on Election 2012 from Torah's perspective, drop me a line!

We look forward to greeting you on Sunday, July 15, at the Chabad Regional Showcase at 8:30 pm! Chabad Lubavitch Center, 10900 Fondren Road.

Good Grief! - Is Sad Bad?

"There is nothing as whole as a broken heart" goes one chassidic saying. "Depression is not a sin; but what depression does, no sin can do" declaims another.
