Oh boy! So much to talk about so little techniseconds to catch your attention before you move on to the next digital distraction....
Texas Shabbaton report: Over 100 students gathered in College Station with over 20 from the Houston area... Very uplifting and inspiring weekend all in all. Photos at www.JewishAggies.com.
While we were at it, we got ourselves once swept up with the social media trends, with "Stuff Chabad Rebbetzins Say" with 5795 views in a matter of days. (It is the sequel to "Stuff Chabad Rabbis Say" 17,949 views).
Obviously, it came at a timely moment, the weekend of the International Conference of Shluchos (Women Emissaries), where Chanie, Chaya Mushkah & Bluma have joined thousands of women for a very special weekend. (Wow, that is a lot of great recipes in one room)!
It also promoted (along with our meme) our late night Purim party, Cirque du Purim to be held at The Galleria - Prohibition Craft of Cocktails Voyager Room on Wed. March 7 at 8:30 pm. Tickets go on sale on Sat. night at 10 pm. Only the first 50 tickets will sell for $10. It is $20 at the door! Based on our amazing attendance last year, tickets will sell fast - so get in early!! RSVP athttp://cirquedupurim.eventbrite.com/
Thursday, March 8 we will have a Family Purim Circus at 5:30 pm at Chabad of Uptown.
We also have a Cirque du Purim promotion going through a Meme - an idea that spreads digitally through social media. This has been an amazing trend in the last few weeks on social media networks. We made our own that has gone viral as well! At the time of writing this email 269 likes, 127 shares & 24 comments... Hmm, probably because Mendel is cute.
This Shabbos, Rabbi Chaim will be cooking (not just mopping) for all. Come challenge his culinary skills and enjoy some sumptuous Shabbos food!
Mazel tov to Dr. Henry & Dr. Maxine Epstein on the birth of a baby daughter, Mushkah, to their son Adam & Clara Chaya Epstein! May they derive much nachas from her!
It is also Shabbos Shekalim & Mevarchim Adar...
When the Holy Temple stood in Jerusalem, each Jew contributed an annual half-shekel to the Temple. The 1st of Adar marked the beginning of the collection of the shekalim. In commemoration, the Torah reading of the Shabbat that falls on or before Adar 1 is supplemented with the verses (Exodus 30:11-16) that relate G-d's commandment to Moses regarding the first giving of the half-shekel.
"Parshat Shekalim" is the first of four special readings added during or immediately before the month of Adar (the other three being "Zachor", "Parah" and "Hachodesh")
