Dear Friends,
This week took the Uptown clan to Natural Bridge Caverns, the Alamo, Riverwalk, Guiness Book of World Records and the Texas Capitol (among other stops). The beauty of the Lone Star State makes you recognize Hashem's amazing handiwork and the people who fill this great State of Texas!
The most memorable experience was the hotel. At 2:30 am the fire alarm goes off. Among the chaos was the prospect of going down the steel, exterior fire escape in the pouring rain, thundering and lightning with the little ones and little 9 week Bluma in our hands. Realizing it, we ran to get shoes, but, thankfully realized that there was an indoor stairwell as well. (Most others didn't). The hotel couldn't get the false fire alarm under control until 5 am leaving us with little sleep and spending quite a few hours hanging out in the lobby.....
A great big Mazel Tov wish to the entire Chabad of Uptown family upon the commissioning of writing a brand new Torah Scroll in Israel! Sarah Anne Goldstein & Family have come forward to dedicate a Torah in memory of their brother and uncle Shmuel (Leonard) ben Nosson, a"h Goldberg. Our temporary Torah on loan will now have a permanent Chabad of Uptown resident partner in the Aron Kodesh!
The Jewish people are compared to the letters of the Torah. In our tradition, no letter is more important than another. As the letters of the Holy Torah are dependent upon one another for its completion, so is one Jew linked with all Jews in an indissoluble chain. The new Chabad of Uptown Torah will stress the importance of unity amongst the Jewish people by allowing others to take part in its beautiful mitzvah by purchasing letters, words, parshiyot and ornaments for the Torah. At this time, when the world is searching for the priceless blessing of peace, we, as Jews, must reassert our unity. We must reaffirm the dedication that has preserved us as a people through the ages. Stay tuned for more details and the date for the Torah's completion and dedication Gala to be held in the Fall/Winter!
