On Sukkah permits and playgrounds... (& Yom Kippur roundup)

Tuesday, 21 September, 2010 - 11:18 pm

Dear Friends,

Wow! What a special month, filled with awe, love and joy (oh yeah, and too many eamils)! We were humbled by the close to 200 who crossed Chabad of Uptown's doors for services over Yom Kippur. May this year be a year of health and prosperity to us all.

Here is some samples of our mailbag:

"Thank you (and of course Chanie) so much for an amazing service... for Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur." Comment: "I second that!"

"So how do we wrap up the Yom Tovim with Rabbi Chaim and Chabad up town?We laughed, cried, laughed some more, whispered, yelled, sung, danced and even prayed. The Rabbi's sermons were well thought, written well and remarkably delivered. Topics covered everything from Zionism, Holocaust, vacations, relationships, traditions, politics (some), convictions, Tfila and the meaning of the Torah. We learned about the Jews from Chelm, the Russian optimist, the Schlimazel, Schlemiel and Nudnik, Israeli rules regarding refrigerator imports and much more. All and all - A wonderful uplifting spiritual and entertaining chagim that certainly will start the year off an a Peak. Yishar Coach!"

"To the great rabbi in the world! Thanks for fascinating yom kipur! It is amazing how you turn this day every year to unique with so much meaning."

"Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff always opens my mind to new thoughts and hopes. To hear Danny Gavin chant is amazing."

After spending many hours making the rounds at the City of Houston permitting (for those in the know, here is how it all went down in the last 24 hours - Front Desk, One Stop, Structural, Occupancy, Planning, One Stop, Express Pay, Computer Bank, Express Pay, One Stop, Habitability, Express Pay, Habitability, Express Pay) we finally secured  the permit for our sukkah! Please join us!

We are also happy to report that a brand new play set (complete with three swings, rock climbing, slide - and most importantly the coolest tower) partially sponsored by Benny & Valerie Katz has been installed alongside the sukkah for non-stop fun!

The Sukkot under the Stars dinner will be fantastic! Are you joining us? - RSVP

Please see complete First Days of Sukkot Schedule below.

Our new debut of "Where in the world in Chabad dancing?" has taken off with rave reviews! Have you watched our Simchat Torah Two Minute Short yet? Watch it and share with your friends!

And of course, we look forward to you joining us at the Simchat Torah Celebration(s)! The Thursday night main hakafot kiddush is sponsored by Ben Shamoolian of Houston Flowery. Sponsorships of Shemini Atzeret (Wed. night), Simchat Torah (Friday) day Hakafot and Shabbos mevarchim Cheshvan Parshat Bereishis are still available.

Also, look out for our all new program for Teens. Our first JLI Teens course, "Israel 3D" will begin in October! Check out www.chabaduptown.org/teens for more information.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the many programs over the next week!
