Chanie & Chanale are in NY for the annual conference of Chabad Rebbetzins as yesterday was 22 Shevat. It is the yartzeit when we honor the life and legacy of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, a woman of remarkable humility, wisdom, and dedication.
- That means Rabbi Chaim is cooking. You coming?
- You can watch the closing Banquet of the annual international conference on Sunday live at www.chabaduptown.org/kinus
The Rebbetzin was born into the illustrious Schneersohn family in 1901, she grew up surrounded by holiness and the selfless leadership of her father, the sixth Chabad Rebbe. From her youth, the Rebbetzin demonstrated profound courage and faith, standing by her father during times of great peril and contributing to his work with quiet strength. Later, as the wife of the Rebbe, she embodied the ideal of the Psalmist: “The entire honor of a king’s daughter is within.”
The Rebbetzin’s greatness was expressed in her private acts of kindness, her unwavering support for the Rebbe’s mission, and her deep care for all who sought her guidance. She declined public recognition, yet her wisdom and sincerity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Although she had no children of her own, the Rebbetzin saw the global Chabad family as her children, and her legacy lives on through the thousands of women and girls who proudly bear her name.
As we mark her yahrzeit on the 22nd of Shevat, let us draw inspiration from the Rebbtzin's life, striving to embody her values of humility, faith, and devotion in our own lives.
Shabbat shalom,
Rabbi Chaim & Chanie
True strength lies not in just surviving challenges, but in thriving despite them. Join us for a transformative community Shabbaton on March 21-22, featuring Rabbi Yisrael and Vivi Deren. Their inspiring talks will equip you with practical tools for resilience, including "My Jewish Toolbox" on Friday night and "The Strength of the Smile" on Shabbos day. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous sponsors, Daniel Casslasy, in memory of Yona David ben Yaffa, a"h, and the Benjaminov family, in memory of Menachem Tzvi ben Yaffa, a"h, whose support made this unforgettable weekend possible.
COHEN CORNER
“Don’t let your habits become handcuffs.”
This week’s Torah portion includes laws about property damage caused by an ox. If an ox gored and caused damage, the owner would pay 50% for the first two incidents, then the full cost after the third, as they were responsible for guarding the animal. If the ox changed owners and environments, the count reset.
The animalistic soul within us can change by shifting our environment. Rather than relying on willpower alone, surrounding ourselves with positive influences helps break old patterns and form new, healthier habits.
Have a wonderful Shabbos!
Rabbi Yosef and Chanale Cohen
