This Shabbos, they will keep Shabbos by traveling on Shabbos to save their own and their community's lives. Many of them include women and girls and the Shluchos, leading the Chabad centers in Ukraine. These brave women have at great personal risk stuck it out until the very last seconds, to be with their communities and help as many people as possible escape or possibly find safer shelter. The urgency of their travels will not allow many of them the chance to stop to light Shabbat candles. They have made a plea begging all Jewish women and girls all over the world to light Shabbos candles today on their behalf. As you do so, have them in mind and pray for their families, all the refugees on the road, the Jewish communities, and the entire people of Ukraine. TORAH: This morning; Zhitomer Ukraine’s Chabad Rabbi, Shloime Wilhelm, after arranging tens of buses to help people escape, finally joined the last bus, and reached Romania, whilst carrying one of the community’s Sefer Torahs. TRAVELERS: More than 140 students and staff arrived in Romania from a children's home in Zhitomir. MOTHER & BABY: Chani and her family, the youngest of which Miri who is only 2 weeks old, are Shluchim of Chabad in Ukraine, in Charkov (along with 200 families of Shluchim all around Ukraine - There are 350,000 Jews in Ukraine). Baruch Hashem, Chani and her family (along with other families) managed to leave Charkov. They arrived to Dnieper (where the situation is -relatively- safer) and are now in the middle of their trip towards the Ukrainian border. Even though Chani keeps the Mitzvot and observes Shabbat carefully, the Mitzvah THIS Shabbat for her is to travel in order to save their lives. SOLDIERS: Extra help was brought in to protect those taking shelter in the shul of Chabad Lubavitch in Kyiv lead by Rabbi & Mrs. Markovitch. LIGHTING CANDLES: Cherry Markovich of Chabad Young Professionals in Kyiv, lights Shabbat candles last week. She has safely arrived, after a harrowing journey, to France. https://youtu.be/Ts8HI-zsn6I More news and recent photos at www.chabaduptown.org/ukraine Please continue to pray for Rabbi Chaim's niece, Chava Guta bas Henya Chasya, a one year old in a coma and in need of miracle!
