JEWISH HERALD VOICE, FRONT PAGE: Dozens of Jewish community members joyfully marched with a police escort near The Galleria on Sunday, Aug. 15, welcoming a new special member to Chabad of Uptown. A brand-new Torah – commissioned in Houston, written in Israel and dedicated in memory of a dear friend in South Africa – made its way down the 610 feeder to Westcreek Lane and to its eventual home on Bettis Drive. “With great pomp and fanfare we completed the Torah and welcomed it to our shul,” Chabad of Uptown Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff told the JHV. ANASH.ORG: A Siyum and Hachnosas Sefer Torah was held this Sunday at Chabad of Uptown & YJP Houston, but the story behind it began years earlier, with a different Sefer Torah in South Africa. In 2013, Maurice Purcell travelled from Houston to visit his hometown of Cape Town, South Africa, and spent some time with his childhood friend Ronnie Levy. Read more....
