Another whirlwind week of storm Harvey response! When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, the Chabad-Lubavitch Emissary couples, "Shluchim" and "Shluchos", mobilized immediately to meet the needs of the local community and beyond. As a grassroots organization with branches in many parts of the state, Chabad received numerous calls for help. The Chabad community partners responded by sending rescue boats and vehicles as well as food, cleaning supplies, cleaning help, babysitting help, hugs and much, much more. Realizing that many people lost EVERYTHING, our very own Naomi Bier came up with the idea of an Amazon registry for people from all over the world to be able to gift flood victims (our floodie buddies) with essential items that needed to be replaced.
You can see many photos, videos and updates - still being populated - at www.chabadhouston.com/relief
Some stats: Over 3,000 meals served, over 50 people rescued from the flood, 320 volunteer teams delivering food and supplies. Over 2,000 volunteers deployed including over 700 students with the help of Chabad on Campus. Yesterday’s visit to Houston of 50 Shluchim uplifted the whole community. 4,000 emergency calls were handled, camp programs for kids were created and 177+ pallets of food ready for distribution in a warehouse Chabad rented.
There are many amazing stories that have emerged from this storm, many of which may be read on Chabad.org News and everywhere else.
Now, though, our hearts and minds are with those in the path of Hurricane Irma. May Hashem protect them all, to be safe and whole.
