sold out weekend - PURIM PHOTOS

This week’s Torah reading describes various activities that took place in the Beis Hamikdash on a regular basis. There were daily offerings, as well as offerings that were brought for holidays and other special occasions.

Whenever an animal offering was brought to the Temple, it was burnt – either entirely or in part – on the altar, located in the Temple courtyard. In the middle of the altar there was a flame that burned continuously. It was never extinguished, and miraculously it was also never affected by the elements; the rain didn’t extinguish it and winds never caused its smoke column to rise anywhere other than straight up.

This perpetual flame serves as a reminder for us today, that in our service of G-d – in living our lives as proud Jews in all that we do – we must never allow the external elements to get in the way of our commitment. They will continue to attempt to extinguish our flame or to cause us to sway, but the Jewish spirit continues to burn miraculously through it all.

May the perpetual flame within each and every one of us continue to burn and to light up the world around us!

Good Shabbos!

Rabbi Chaim & Chanie

HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND
Chabad Young Professionals International is set to welcome hundreds of young Jewish professionals to the highly anticipated CYP Texas Summit taking place at Chabad of Uptown this weekend, a landmark event fostering Jewish pride, connection, and active community involvement. This unique gathering, slated for this weekend, aims to empower young Jews with workshops on critical issues they face today, from antisemitism to mental health, leadership, and relationships. It is so popular, the event is sold out and is no longer taking registrations! Read all about it in the JHV

THIS SHABBAT: Parshat Parah
The Torah reading of Parah (Numbers 19) is added to the weekly reading. Parah details the laws of the "Red Heifer" and the process by which a person rendered ritually impure by contact with a dead body was purified. When the Holy Temple stood in Jerusalem, every Jew had to be in a state of ritual purity in time for the bringing of the Pesach offering in the Temple. Today, though we're unable to fulfill the Temple-related rituals in practice, we fulfill them spiritually by studying their laws in the Torah. Thus, we study and read the section of Parah in preparation for the upcoming festival of Passover. Links: The Parah reading with commentaryThe Calf's Mother

twelve foot grogger!

We went so big we don't fit in the studio!! This morning, FOX26 Heather Sullivan & Melissa Wilson joined Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff & Bluma Lazaroff with Cory Weinberg's creation of this year's truly largest gragger known to man, standing 10ftx12ft tall! The Jewish holiday of Purim begins this Saturday evening and lasts until Sunday evening. Watch how Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff explains the meaning behind the holiday on Fox26 here.

We are indeed in Texas, and we gotta go big! You think last year's gragger was big? It was "only" 4x7 ft! This years measures in 12 x 10 ft tall! Come see it for yourself at Chabad of Uptown's Motzei Shabbat megillah reading! Complete schedule and registration link to the Purim parties are below. JHV calls him "The Grogger Guy"... lol

The holiday of Purim commemorates the Jewish people’s victory over the wicked Haman and the antisemites of his day. The fortune of the Jewish people turned from bleakness and dread to complete and utter victory, seemingly overnight.

But the seeds for this victory were actually planted in the words of Haman himself. In introducing his proposed plan to annihilate the Jews, he said, “There is one nation, spread and splintered among the nations.” What he was implying was that despite the G-d of the Jews always coming through for His people, in this instance the Jews are splintered and lacking unity, and therefore they will no longer have Hashem's protection.

His mistake was that he didn’t pay heed to his own words. Even while referring to the Jews as “spread and splintered” he still called them “one nation” – even in their lower moments, they were still one. And that’s what eventually led to his downfall and our victory.

Throughout history, including nowadays, the Jewish people may seem to be divided and lacking a unified front. However, even under such circumstances, that element of Jewish unity can never be extinguished. No matter how splintered we may seem, we are still “one nation”—a single entity.

That’s why our enemies will never stand a chance against us – Am Yisrael Chai!

Good Shabbos and happy Purim!

Rabbi Chaim & Chanie

Good Shabbos!

what's your fav hamantash flavor?

After five weeks of Torah readings about the construction of the Tabernacle, we finally reach the culminating event – the actual assembly of the many components into a fully erect structure.

Although most of the work involved with building the Tabernacle was done by many different people, when it came to actually putting it all together, it had to be done by Moshe Rabbeinu himself. Despite not being a builder by trade, Moshe was the only one who had the necessary spiritual insight to properly assemble the home for Hashem on Earth. As such, once the work of creating the various components was completed, the Jews brought everything to Hashem.

And because he was only one person, the actual assembly was nothing short of miraculous. Moshe stood by, and with the slightest touch of his hand, even the heaviest of panels and fixtures miraculously slid into place, together forming the complete structure.

The important message for us today is that while we all do our part to serve Hashem, each of us in our own unique way, we must also make a point to connect to the generation’s spiritual leader, the “Moshe Rabbeinu,” with whose help we can experience true miracles. Yes, everyone’s participation is vital, but without the collective reach of Moshe, everything remains independent pieces with no connection to the others. Once Moshe is involved, he not only brings everyone together as a united entity, he channels great miracles for us all to experience.

May we merit to experience the ultimate miracle, the coming of Moshiach and the building of the third and permanent Temple!

Good Shabbos!

Rabbi Chaim & Chanie

In the Jungle and Enthusiasm

We would love to have you join us for Purim! On Sunday, we will have a "Purim in the Jungle" a spirited community and family friendly event for young and old! Megillah Reading, vibrant Purim Feast and experience a professionally-led Interactive Drum Circle, lively music, and L'Chaim for adults, all while dressed in costume for an extra treat. Please RSVP now so we can know to expect you! See complete schedule of events below!

As the holiday of Purim approaches, this Shabbos we begin reading a series of four special Torah portions, in addition to the regular weekly reading.

This week’s extra reading is called Shekalim, and is about the annual collection of half-shekel coins that every Jew was expected to donate to the Temple’s operating fund.

The original donation was meant to be an atonement for the sin of the golden calf. When the original commandment was given to the Jewish people, Moshe Rabbeinu was unsure how this small donation would help correct the severity of the sin. To answer that, Hashem showed Moshe a coin made of fire, saying: “This is what they should give.” Meaning, when their donation is exactly like this — fired up with enthusiasm — then forgiveness and atonement will be automatic.

The same goes for any mitzvah that we do. We can choose to either go about it by rote without any excitement, doing just enough to get by and consider it done, or we can do it enthusiastically. Obviously the correct way to do a mitzvah is with excitement and enthusiasm. A fired up mitzvah infinitely outweighs doing a mitzvah without any vigor.

And the more mitzvahs we do enthusiastically, the more we reveal our bond with G-d, until the ultimate revelation — the coming of Moshiach and the return of all Jews to the Holy Land!

Good Shabbos!

Rabbi Chaim & Chanie

Torah stands up to adversity

Another wonderful week of classes! Monday Shabbos Law, Tuesday Meditation Lunch, Tuesday evening JLI's Purposeful Life with Rabbi Moishe Traxler, Wednesday graduation of YJP Houston's Talmud Dilemmas, Thursday night Gates of Trust! Looking forward to another week of well attended classes on Shabbos morning at 9 am Torah Or and Shabbos afternoon laws of Adar / Purim!

As Jews, we are like a single entity; united at our core. Just look to this week’s Torah portion for one of the greatest examples of this: Moshe ascended the mountain for 40 days. When he didn’t return on what the people mistakenly calculated as the 40th day, they assumed that he had died. Certain rabble-rousers incited the others to create a replacement for their leader — the infamous Golden Calf.

Although Moshe himself obviously wasn’t involved in creating the idol, nor was the majority of the Jewish nation, because of their inherent unity even those who were technically innocent were affected by this horrendous act. Moshe, who wasn’t even present when it occurred, was demoted in Hashem’s eyes. As a result, it became his responsibility to beg Hashem for forgiveness and atone for all the people — which he did successfully, because it was personal for him.

The same is true across the board: when a single member of our nation is in crisis, it becomes all of our collective responsibility to help that one Jew. How much more so when many of our fellow Jews find themselves in peril — the feeling of Jewish unity and shared responsibility must be front and center for all of us.

Since the events of October 7, the worldwide Jewish nation has proven that we are indeed one entity. We continue to demonstrate that no matter where we may be, physically or spiritually, and no matter the pushback we may receive, every single Jew around the world will stand up for our brothers and sisters. We learn Torah, pray, donate, do extra mitzvahs, and demand their safe return.

Most importantly, we demand of Hashem to bring an end to all the suffering of our fellow Jews, with the coming Moshiach, may it be today!

Good Shabbos!

Rabbi Chaim & Chanie
