Dear Friends,

What a great week!

  • RC has been getting smoother on the 2 mile jog, thanks to Matt Davis! Join us at 6:30 am on Tuesday mornings for a 2 mile jog, teffilin wrap and a power breakfast to start your day off right!
  • The event for close to 40 young professionals on post Holocaust optimism with guest speaker, Sam Spritzer was inspiring and uplifting. Special thanks to our hosts Ethan Melloul and Aaron Friedman! Chabad's Young Adults & Professionals meet every week on Wed. eve for some socializing, networking and a class on contemporary Jewish topics. Join us or spread the word!
  • Many thanks to the volunteers who came tonight to help setup for the Lag B'omer Jamming Night and preparing the BBQ grub. Thanks to Ady Fisberg, Layn Bowers, Feliks Starikov, Michael Ostrovsky & Riv Yadin, we have it under control!
This Sat. night, May 1 at 9 pm, please join us and enjoy some great music and BBQ. Those who play an instrument and asked to bring your bongos, strings or brass for an amazing night of music, bbq and celebration led and coordinated by live music with Abe Solomon! Register in advance and save $5! More on the Lag B'omer event here. RSVP for the event here!
  • Sunday, May 2, citywide 3-6 pm Lag B'omer Bike Parade and Carnival!
  • Our current JLI Torah Studies course, "Taming Passion" concludes next week as we conclude the book of Vayikra.
The book of Bamidbar (May 6 Thursday lunch hour and eve classes) will introduce a fascinating course, “Cultivating Sensitivity”. It focuses on nature and ecology aspiring to address and present Torah’s view on one of today’s most pressing issues: The Environment and Going Green. Seize the opportunity to hear what the Torah has to say on this topic! You won't regret it! (See promo below)
Here are some of the questions explored in this upcoming course:
What is the basis of environmental responsibility?
What does Torah say about recycling?
Does Judaism offer solutions for the energy crisis?
Is Global Warming a real threat?
What are ways to inspire eco-friendliness?
Should we pursue innovations that harm the environment?
Are there spiritual means that help the environment?
What is the definition of an environmentally sound society?
  • Our new website, www.chaabduptown.org  is up and running. Comments (on design, dead links, oops, etc) and feedback is greatly appreciated.... :)

new Aron Kodesh, smorg of classes

Dear Friends,

  • Pesach ended with a grande finale and uplifting and inspiring Moshiach Seudah complete with four cups and matzah!
  •  The Seders were absolutely amazing. 60 eve one and over 40 eve 2. Unfortunately we had to turn away at least 30 due to lack of space the first night (another reason to get the Shul built!). But, the people, the spirit, and of course Chanie's spread was over the top!

Here are some responses to our survey (Even if you were not at out Seder, please participate as it helps us cater our programming better to the needs of the community):

    • "Best Schmurah matzah ever! Delicious wine!"
    • "By far the best seder. Very user-friendly, we were made to feel very comfortable by Chanie and Rabbi Chaim. All of us enjoyed the humor and the liveliness of the seder. My parents could not stop laughing at Rabbi Chaim's jokes. I also thought it was very child-friendly. Way to go, Rabbi Chaim and Chanie. Another smashing success."
    • "Everything was perfect... where it made everybody feel comfortable. The hangover from the wine the next day...well, THAT I"ll need to keep tabs on that next year."
    • "Best Seder I have ever been to, in 50+ years."
    • "The food was fantastic."
    • "Thank you two for always making us feel home, bringing us back to our roots and traditions, and for being our family!!! We Love you, and we love Chabad Uptown."
    • "Who Let the Jews Out? Sang to Who Let the Dogs out by Rabbi will be stuck in my memory forever as one of the best Pesach moments of my life!"
    • "Next year ...... at Rabbi Chaim and Chanie's Sedar in the LARGE shul!" (editor's note: in Yerushalayim :))

  • The Matzah is out and fresh Challah is in (Chanie's kitchen right now)! Come help inaugurate our new beautiful Aron Kodesh this Shabbos. Many thanks to Brith Shalom and Dorit and Ian Golan for recruiting the crew to shlep it over and in!
  • Our Torah Studies Thursday classes are back on track. Please join us every Thursday for lunch hour at 12-1:15 pm and evening at 8-9 pm. The current course on the book of Vayikra is Taming Passion. Click here for the course syllabus.

Dear Friends,

WOW! What amazing seders! Chanie put out an amazing spread and the house was packed! (We are sorry we had to turn away so many for lack of room, only stresses how important it is for us to build!) The best part were the artifacts from Egypt shared... the highlight of the evening!

Whether you were at our seder or not, please respond to this anonymous short important Pesach survey that will tell us how to provide services in the future: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MF2Y6NY!

The final day of Pesach, we celebrate the closing of the holiday with a Moshiach Seudah, complete with four cups of wine and matzos! Please join us at 6:30 pm for Mincha followed by the Seudah on Tuesday, April 6!

More on thsi custom: On this final day of Passover we strive for the highest level of freedom, and focus on the Final Redemption. Following the Baal Shem Tov’s custom, we end Passover with “Moshiach’s Feast” — a festive meal complete with matzah and four cups of wine, during which we celebrate the imminent arrival of the Messiah.
