34 Miners

Dear Friends,

As the dramatic rescue of the 33 Chilean miners trapped more than 2,000 feet underground wound to a happy, indeed miraculous ending, one of the great and emblematic lines of the saga was delivered by a miner who sent a letter up on Tuesday, the day before he made the journey to the surface.

"There are actually 34 of us," 19-year-old Jimmy Sanchez wrote, "because God has never left us down here."

Amen, a watching world would agree.

As the dust settles and we head into the regular routine of life, it is refreshing to make the classes rounds, etc as we journey through the coming year.

Today brought two dump trucks of 28 tons of pea gravel to surface the area of the new playset, making it even safer for the children to run and play.... come check it out!

The coming week will bring:

  • An Historic Torah Welcoming Ceremony  at Chabad at Texas A&M this Sunday
  • JLI Teens first course - Israel 3D was met with much enthusiasm. Click here for photos of the BBQ and Joust preparty last sunday.
  • Our Wednesday evening (8:30 pm) young professional social and class is back in full swing with many in attendance.
  • We are back at the Thursday lunch hour (12 pm) and evening (8 pm) classes.
  • Chabad will be serving up a storm at the First Annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff. Please let us know if you can volunteer to join our team with hanging and greeting at our tent for the cookoff and / helping with breakdown.
  • Also, preparing for the the CME & CLE accredited JLI Medicine & Morals course coming up, beginning Tuesday, October 26 (Rabbi Traxler will be the instructor).
  • Also, please save the date for our Gala evening to take place on Sunday, February 27 celebrating five years of activity in the Uptown area!

There have been requests to provide a Hebrew reading and comprehension course at Chabad of Uptown. If you would be interested is such a course, please let us know.
