This week's class:

Bamidbar: The Levites: Rights and Responsibilities
Each of the twelve tribes of Israel had its own distinctive character and role in the life of our nation. The Levites were spared the agony of slavery in Egypt, received tithes from their fellow Jews, and were designated as spiritual leaders, teachers, singers, and protectors of the Tabernacle and then the Temple. In today’s class we will focus on the Tribe of |Levi’s task of safeguarding the Temple, and the unique means by which the Levites’ census was taken. In doing so, we will learn how each of us has an “inner Levite” who is similarly encouraged to live a life of meaning and higher calling that combines the transcendent and the mundane by channeling our spirituality through G-d’s commandments and the specific roles in life that each of us is provided with. Like the Levite, every Jew has the responsibility to see his or her role not as comprising special rights and privileges, but as the G-dly responsibility to safeguard what is most important in life, and to contribute as servant leaders to our people and to humanity as whole.

Please join us for more all night Torah Study on Shavuot, Thursday, May 28 beginning at  midnight.

As well as a Ten Commandement Torah Reading and Dairy Kiddush on Friday May 29! Services will begin at 10 am, Torah Reading at 11:15 am followed by a Diary Kiddush!

Thursday Parsha Class on Behar-Bechukotai: Tough Love
Perhaps our last class at The Pavilion offered as always at 12-1:15 pm or at 8-9pm. Lunch from Sabas!
Class overview: To many people, the admonitions and curses from HaShem that appear in the Torah are downright frightening. Others are perplexed by how a loving G-d could be involved in curses and punishment. But the truth of the matter is that they are nothing other than an expression of HaShem’s fatherly love, caring and compassion. While most children despise punishment, they eventually come to understand and value parental discipline. HaShem’s discipline also takes maturity and wisdom to fully appreciate. Today’s class will focus on three aspects of HaShem’s caring that are conveyed through His blessings and curses, and show how they are there to help us to make conscious and correct choices, and how they clearly mark the best and only true pathway through life.
